My Journey

Life for each of us is full of challenges, big and small, looking ahead and making choices, setting new horizons and creating new connections, starting friendships, and finding our way.  And amid all this, making time to laugh in the rain... or whatever it is that bring us happiness. After leaving Korea to study here as a mature aged student in 1997, I settled in Melbourne and ten years later gained my Australian Citizenship.  It was and remains a great honour.

My work life over the past sixteen years has been as a qualified Korean language Interpreter, since registration with NAATI (Australia’s National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) in 2002.

In the years since I have worked with people from all kinds of backgrounds, age ranges, occupations, social and domestic situations, facing health, financial and/or emotional challenges, from new immigrants to young mothers and aged parents, to third generation and international students.  Interpreting for and working closely with a range of well being professionals, government and private, from maternal health nurses, to aged care workers, psychologists and counsellors, mental health and case workers, palliative care specialists, Maternal Child Health nurses, police and Para-legal specialists.

All with a common thread, to find clarity and a safe and beneficial way through.

The depth of knowledge and understanding gained through my years as an Interpreter, enabling the transition and to transform into my role today as a professional Counsellor.

My Philosophy

  •  Empathy and Respect
  •  Empowerment and Resilience
  •  optimism and Hope

" How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?”  Carl Rogers

“You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.”  Jon  Kabat-Zinn

“What I want in my life is compassion, a flow between myself  and others based on a mutual giving from the heart.” Marshall B. Rosenberg

“Your dream will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams: who look inside, awakes.”   Carl Jung

“Happiness, not in another place but this place, not for another hour but this hour”   Walt Whitman

Positive thinking is a mental and emotional attitude that focuses on the bright side of life and expects positive results.”    Remez Sasson

           COUNSELLING SERVICES

I am an engaging and client-centred counsellor and specialise in providing effective therapeutic support to multicultural background Asian migrants. I have a warm, empathic counselling style and connect easily with clients, encouraging open discussion. I know it takes courage to seek help and talk about deeply personal issues. I am committed to creating a safe place where my clients feel at ease and comfortable sharing their experiences.

              Client-Centered Therapy                                        Empathy and Trust

Empathic listening with non-judgmental attitude, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I offer.Therapeutic relationship is about trust, authenticity, and mutual positive feelings.

Mindfulness Meditation                                         Stress Depression Anxiety Trauma  Management

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are, what is happening, what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. It helps

  • to become more focused
  • to become more self aware
  • to be in touch with your own feelings
  • to increase resilience – finding your inner strength
  • to gain self knowledge, positivity, hope and perseverance.

Mindfulness CBT                                                     (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)                       Strengths and Optimism

CBT is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle. It helps:

  • to become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking
  • to respond to them in a more positive and effective way
  • to improve your state of mind on a daily basis

Interpersonal Communication Coaching              Empathy and Respect

It aims to find a way for all present to get what really matters to them without the use of guilt, humiliation, shame, blame, coercion, or threats. It is useful for resolving conflicts, connecting with others, and living in a way that is conscious, present, and attuned to the genuine, living needs of yourself and others.

No matter how difficult the past, you can always begin again today.”

When it is calm, everything becomes clear."
